Two Weeks after Senna hit live servers, Riot announces a new champion for League of Legends, Aphelios, The Weapon of the Faithful.
What will you sacrifice for your faith?
Only the devout will master the next champion we have prepared for you. A new marksman, raised since birth with only one purpose: to protect the faith from those who stand in the sun. Constantly training, mastering diverse weapons of faith, swapping through them like cycles of the moon with nothing but that one lone voice, pushing, comforting… loving? If you are up to the challenge, you too must train hard and achieve zen-like focus in order to reap the rewards. So I ask again: What will you sacrifice for your faith?
Mount Targon is located far away from any major civilization, the mountain itself is formed not just by its geological processes or tectonic plates pushing against each other, it’s actually formed by magical forces pulling the mountain upwards from the top.
so all across Runeterra, people have heard of this legendary mountain and the brave souls who have managed to climb it.
At the top of the mountain is a portal to another realm where there are these divine beings known as Aspects, these Aspects are celestial beings that sometimes will imbue mortals with divine powers if they deem them worthy, these aspects are the embodiments of different concepts, for example Pantheon is the aspect of war, Diana is the aspect of the moon, Leona the sun, they gain power from these celestial entities.
Just like Diana, Aphelios is a Lunari, a religion where people worship the moon, discriminated by a military powerful Solaris people that worship the sun, Lunaris were always hiding, fearing for their lives and were pushed up the mountain seeking safety in a harsher environment.
Desperate for purpose, Aphelios undertook a ceremonial journey into darkness where Lunari were said to discover their paths—their orbits. He followed the moon’s light and eventually acquired the lunar power with the help of his magically gifted sister whispering in his ears like Kindred and death.
His sister, Alune. Alune resides in a temple in Targon, she worships the moon and helps channel its powers to give Aphelios “an arsenal of moonstone weapons.”
